TEXT 24
- prattāṁ duhitaraṁ samrāṭ

prattāmwho was given — who was given; duhitaramdaughter — daughter; samrāṭthe Emperor (Manu) — the Emperor (Manu); sadṛkṣāyaunto a suitable person — unto a suitable person; gatarelieved of his responsibility-vyathaḥrelieved of his responsibility — relieved of his responsibility; upaguhyaembracing — embracing; caand — and; bāhubhyāmwith his two arms — with his two arms; autkaṇṭhyahaving an anxious and agitated mind-unmathitahaving an anxious and agitated mind-āśayaḥhaving an anxious and agitated mind — having an anxious and agitated mind.
Thus relieved of his responsibility by handing over his daughter to a suitable man, Svāyambhuva Manu, his mind agitated by feelings of separation, embraced his affectionate daughter with both his arms.
A father always remains in anxiety until he can hand over his grownup daughter to a suitable boy. A father and mother's responsibility for children continues until they marry them to suitable spouses; when the father is able to perform that duty, he is relieved of his responsibility.
